Cinema lenses are expensive. And if they’re cheap, they kind of suck. Or, they used to be until Rokinon came out with its DS and DSX lines of Cine lenses. Their de-clicked apertures (going down as low as T1.5!), high-quality aspherical glass, and sturdy builds put them at the top of anyone who’s looking to get cinema-quality lenses at a reasonable price.
Plus, each lens in the Rokinon DS series shares the same focus and iris gear ring positions, which means speedier lens changes since you won’t have to re-position accessories like follow focus units or iris motors.
Sure, they’re not Hollywood-level quality, but unless you’re shooting ultra-high-end video or need some additional bells and whistles, we can’t help but recommend these. They’re the lenses we use for almost all of our film and video work.
